River Summit 2006
“Investing in the River of our State and the State of our River – The Lower Platte.” That was the theme of this interactive Summit featuring displays, presentations, and hands–on activities.
We had two nationaly renowned speakers – Joel Sartore, a National Geographic Magazine photographer who kicked off the event with a photo journal AND Ernie Niemi, a well–known environmental economist with ECONorthwest who specializes in demonstrating the connection between outdoor recreation and robust local economies. We also featured two panel discussions – one on land use and one on water use. Finally, we had a myriad of concurrent sessions with topics covering tribal issues, urban and rural comprehensive planning, ecotourism, the Mead Superfund site, and extremes – drought & flooding. The event was an overwelming success with approximately 90 attendees; all of whom walked away with a better understanding of the pressures on the Lower Platte River. Thank you to all who participated and presented at the River Summit.
